The Indian Air Force (IAF) conducts the Air Force Common Admission Test (AFCAT) twice a year to select officers for the Flying Branch and Ground Duty (Technical/Non-Technical) branches. The written exam is a decisive stage before the AFSB (Air Force Selection Board) interview, and this tool helps you compare your raw score with expected cut-off ranges before the official result declaration.

AFCAT 2026 Exam Pattern & Marking Scheme

AFCAT is a Computer Based Test (CBT) of 100 questions / 300 marks, to be completed in 2 hours. Candidates applying for the Ground Duty (Technical) branch must additionally appear for the Engineering Knowledge Test (EKT).

AFCAT Paper (2 Hours, 100 Questions, 300 Marks)

  • General Awareness — 25 questions / 75 marks
  • Verbal Ability in English — 25 questions / 75 marks
  • Numerical Ability — 25 questions / 75 marks
  • Reasoning & Military Aptitude Test — 25 questions / 75 marks

Note: There is no fixed sectional time limit — candidates can attempt sections in any order within the overall 2-hour window. The final merit list for AFSB shortlisting is prepared branch- and category-wise based on total score.

EKT — Engineering Knowledge Test (45 Minutes, 50 Questions, 150 Marks)

  • Mechanical, Computer Science, Electrical & Electronics — 50 questions / 150 marks

Note: EKT is applicable only for candidates who have applied for the Ground Duty (Technical) branch. Flying Branch and Ground Duty (Non-Technical) candidates do not need to attempt it.

Official Marking Scheme

  • +3 marks for each correct answer
  • -1 mark for each wrong answer
  • 0 marks for unattempted questions

This applies equally to AFCAT and EKT. This calculator uses the same marking pattern so you can estimate your score accurately before the official result.
