UGC NET June 2026 Exam Pattern & Marking Scheme
UGC NET is a Computer Based Test (CBT) conducted in a single session of 3 hours. It has two papers — Paper 1 (common for all) and Paper 2 (subject-specific). There is no negative marking for wrong or unattempted answers.
Paper 1 — Teaching & Research Aptitude (Common for All)
- Questions: 50 | Marks: 100
- Covers 10 units: Teaching Aptitude, Research Aptitude, Reading Comprehension, Communication, Reasoning, Logical Reasoning, Data Interpretation, Information & Communication Technology, People & Environment, Higher Education System
Paper 2 — Subject-Specific
- Questions: 100 | Marks: 200
- Based on the subject chosen at the time of application (e.g., Commerce, History, Computer Science, Education, etc.)
Official Marking Scheme
- ✔ +2 marks for each correct answer
- ➖ 0 marks for wrong or unattempted answers
- No negative marking — attempt all questions
Total marks: 300 (Paper 1: 100 + Paper 2: 200). The final merit list for JRF and Assistant Professor eligibility is prepared subject-wise and category-wise based on total score.
